Syracuse VA Medical Center operates a full-service inpatient and outpatient pharmacy to meet the medication needs of the Veterans we serve. As a patient enrolled in VA health care, you are eligible to receive medications and supplies from VA when they are ordered by a VA provider.
Medications for service-connected disabilities and some others are provided free of charge. Depending on your financial or service-connected status, you may be required to make a copay for other medications. If you have been given a prescription by a doctor outside VA, the only way to obtain that medication from VA is to be evaluated by your VA health care provider. If necessary, your VA provider will write a prescription which can be filled by VA. It is important to discuss all medications you are taking with your VA Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT).
Filling your prescriptions
New prescriptions can be picked up at your VA pharmacy or mailed to your home. Refills are processed through the mail. Prescriptions that are mailed to you will usually arrive within 14 days. Please plan accordingly and order your medications at least three weeks before you need them.
To order a refill, you will need your social security number and the following information:

If you have refills remaining, you can order online, by phone or in person.
If you are a registered My HealtheVet user with an authenticated account, you can order refills and view your medication history online at www.myhealth.va.gov. To sign up for this free service, ask about it at your next visit.
Contact the automated prescription refill line at 1-800-585-9772. You will be guided through the steps to order a refill.
You can request a refill to you while at a VA appointment or by stopping by the VA pharmacy. It will be mailed to you within approximately 14 days.
If you do not have any refills remaining, contact your Patient Aligned Care Team to request a new prescription. They may need to see you before the prescription can be renewed, so it is important to do this as early as possible.
