Syracuse VA, in partnership with National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, is offering support to loved ones of Veterans living with mental health concerns. Through a series of 13 classes, the Family to Family course educates about mental illness and to reshapes traditional views. The course will be presented on Thursday nights from 6:00 to 8:30 beginning on April 4. Classes meet at the VA Behavioral Health Outpatient Center, 620 Erie Blvd. West in Syracuse.

The Family to Family course is taught by trained family members of Veterans and guided by VA Recovery Coordinator Ann Canastra. Other experts from VA join the course to present on topics including: medication, substance use, vocational rehabilitation, PTSD, and peer support. The class is free and a light dinner is provided.

This is the sixth time Family to Family has been offered at Syracuse VA. Through previous sessions, families have found ways to help the Veteran they love to find peace of mind, supportive treatment and even employment.

For more information on the Family to Family course contact Ann Canastra at (315) 425-4400 ext. 51009.
