Ground-breaking Care for Women Veterans with PTSD
Groundbreaking for the new PTSD Treatment Center at VA Western New York Healthcare System. The facility will be on the campus of the Batavia VA Medical Center.
On December 15, VA Western New York Healthcare System broke ground for a new women’s Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) residential treatment facility. Veterans, public officials and VA employees were on hand to mark the occasion.
“It was a great day for the ground breaking, as it was announced this week that troops will be coming home from Iraq,” VA Western New York Interim Medical Center Director Craig Howard remarked.
The new building will provide 12 beds, standing as one of ten sites in the country for the inpatient treatment of women Veterans with PTSD. Care will also be provided for the effects of military sexual trauma and other mental health-related issues. The clinic will include private patient rooms as well as areas for treatment, counseling, dining and visitation.
The $5.4 million project is expected to open in the winter of 2013.
