Medical Center Director

Dr. Pearson, who is a retired U.S. Navy Captain, most recently served as the Chief Executive Director of Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. His previous positions include Chief Operating Officer of Naval Hospital Pensacola in Pensacola, Florida and Chief Operating Officer of Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California. He earned both his Doctorate degree and Master’s degree in physical therapy from Baylor University and a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Health Sciences.

Associate Medical Center Director

Michael DelDuca, a Central New York native, most recently served in the capacity of Ambulatory Care Line Manager for the Syracuse VA Medical Center, providing administrative leadership for Primary Care, Outpatient Clinics, Emergency Medicine, Home Based Care, Telehealth, and Whole Health. His previous positions include business operations manager for the VA Maryland Health Care System in the Medical Care Clinical Center, Anesthesia and Neurology Clinical Centers and Nursing Services. Mr. DelDuca earned Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from SUNY Geneseo and a Masters of Business Administration, Healthcare Management, from Clarkson University Capital Region Campus. He then completed an Administrative Fellowship with the VA Capitol Health Care Network, completed the FEMA Healthcare Leadership for Mass Casualty Incidents and is a graduate of the VHA Health Care Leadership Development Program (HCLDP). He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Family Health Centers of Baltimore, a Federally Qualified Healthcare Center.

Chief of Staff

Dr. S. Asif Ali MD assumed the Chief of Staff position July, 2015. He obtained his medical degree in 1996 from the Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Chief Residency from Case Western Reserve University St. Vincent's/St. Luke's Medical Center in 2001. He was in a hospital employed practice from 2002 to 2006 in Cleveland Ohio. He joined the Syracuse Veterans Affairs Medical Center in November 2006 as an Academic Internal Medicine Physician. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at SUNY Upstate Medical University. He has served as Medical Staff President at the Syracuse Veterans Affairs Medical Center since April 2012.

Associate Director for Patient and Nursing Service

Cheryl Czajkowski, MSN, RN has been appointed Associate Director for Patient and Nursing Service at the Syracuse VA Medical Center effective December 23, 2015. Most recently, Ms. Czajkowski served as the Medical VA Care Line Manager, where she had oversight of medical/surgical inpatient and sub-specialty care operations. Prior to this role, Ms. Czajkowski was the Associate Chief of Nursing Service, Acute Care, at the Lebanon VA Medical Center in Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Prior to her transfer to the Lebanon VA Medical Center, Ms. Czajkowski worked at the Syracuse VA Medical Center in both nursing staff and management positions. Ms. Czajkowski is a strong advocate for patient-centered care. Ms. Czajkowski graduated from Crouse School of Nursing, Syracuse, New York, then went on to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, New York for her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and graduated with distinction. She completed her education by attaining her Master of Science Degree in Nursing Leadership and Management at Walden University, Baltimore, Maryland. Ms. Czajkowski has held a membership with the International Nursing Organization Sigma Theta Tau, and has served as a past president.
