Syracuse, NY — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Frank P. Pearson as Director of the Syracuse VA Medical Center. Dr. Pearson will oversee delivery of health care services to more than 50,000 Veterans and an operating budget of more than $300 million.
“We are excited to bring Dr. Pearson on board as the new Director of the Syracuse VA Medical Center,” said Dr. Joan E. McInerney, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 2 Director. “His sound leadership qualities and proven experience will be valuable assets for the facility, the employees and volunteers, and most importantly, for the Veterans we are honored to serve.”
Most recently, Dr. Pearson was the Hospital Chief Executive Director for the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. In this capacity, he provided overarching leadership for the planning, organizing, coordinating, controlling, reviewing, evaluating, and improvement of medical, administrative and support operations of the medical facility and outlying clinics. Dr. Pearson is a leader with over 20 years of clinical and executive leadership experience, and his experience includes various leadership roles, organizational improvement, and multi-facility operations. He will assume his position at the Syracuse VA in August.
Dr. Pearson, who is a retired U.S. Navy Captain with over thirty-four years of active duty military service, has successfully held positions as Chief Operating Officer of Naval Hospital Pensacola and Chief Operating Officer/Director of Naval Medical Center San Diego. He earned both his Doctorate and Master’s in Physical Therapy from Baylor University and a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from A.T. Still University’s Arizona School of Health Sciences.
The Syracuse VA Medical Center is part of the VA New York/New Jersey Healthcare Network, which consists of 10 VA medical centers in New York and New Jersey, and Community-Based Outpatient Clinics in those states.
With 1,700 staff, the Syracuse VA Medical Center is a 189-bed general medical and surgical facility, 30 of which are dedicated to the Spinal Cord Injury unit. It also comprises a 48 bed Community Living Center and provides comprehensive Primary and Mental health care. The medical center operates seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics geographically dispersed throughout 13-counties in Central New York. These areas include; Auburn, Binghamton, Massena, Oswego, Rome, Tompkins/Ithaca/Cortland and Watertown.
