Syracuse VA Selects New Provider
For Massena Community Based Outpatient Clinic

Change to Onsite OHS, Inc. Will Enhance Care and Services to Local Veterans

Massena, NY- Officials at the Syracuse VA Medical Center announced today that Onsite Occupational Health & Safety, Inc. of Princeton, IN. has been selected to establish a new Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) to service the needs of Veterans in St. Lawrence County.  Onsite OHS was selected at the conclusion of the normal Department of Veteran Affairs federal solicitation and award selection process.

Contracts for operation of CBOC’s are competitively bid every five years to ensure that Veteran patients are receiving the best possible care from the most capable providers.

The Massena CBOC, is currently operated by, and located in, Massena Memorial Hospital, 1 Hospital Drive, Massena, NY. The Clinic provides primary and behavioral health care and specialty referral services to approximately 1800 Veterans in St. Lawrence County and the surrounding North Country.

Onsite OHS will establish the Clinic to 54 East Orvis Street, Massena, NY which is approximately 1mile from its current location.

Onsite OHS is planning extensive renovations of this location which will be completed prior to an anticipated opening in June.  This new clinic will be designed to provide significant additional space needed for room expansion, patient privacy and enhanced services.  The new location will also provide the VA the ability to implement PACT (Patient Aligned Care Teams) and expand care by providing additional space for Mental Health, Telehealth, and Dietetic Services.  This will decrease the need for travel to the Syracuse VA for Veterans in need of these services.

Onsite OHS currently operates a VA community based outpatient clinic in Dover, Tennessee and more than 50 non-VA medical clinics worldwide.  Both Massena Memorial and Onsite OHS are working collaboratively to ensure a smooth transition.

“Onsite OHS is excited to be selected to provide high quality, personalized healthcare services to Veterans at the Massena Clinic,” said Kyle G. Johnson, President & Chief Executive Officer of Onsite OHS.  “As a Veteran myself, I look forward to providing clinical care to those who have sacrificed so much and honorably served our country.”

It is important to note that this change and the relocation of the Massena CBOC will, in no way, interfere with Veteran care. Letters have been sent from the Syracuse VA Medical Center to every Veteran utilizing the CBOC, informing them of the change in operator and location.  Massena Hospital will continue to operate the VA clinic during the transition period.  Services for the Veteran patients currently seen at the clinic will continue uninterrupted during this period.

“Onsite OHS was selected to operate the CBOC because their proposal was the most responsive to the needs of our Veterans. The Syracuse VA will continue to have a referral relationship with Massena Memorial Hospital,” said Richard Kazel, External Medical/Surgical Care Line Manager for the Syracuse VA.
