Veteran Mental Health and Homeless Summits

The Syracuse VA Medical Center hosted two, separate but related, Summits on Thursday, August 21st.

The purpose of the Summits was to bring together key stakeholders in the Syracuse Community with the goal of enhancing the well-being of Veterans and their families.  Topics discussed included Military Culture, Family Services, Housing, Peer Support and Education/Vocational Rehabilitation.

Forty representatives from CNY organizations, working with the VA, engaged in an active dialogue regarding ways they can provide services to area Veterans and their families.
"It's' very powerful to see how many people care about our Veterans within our community. My hope is that we stay accountable to the commitments and work we started at the Summits and grow stronger through new alliances and combined interests," said Ann Canastra, Syracuse VA Local Recover Coordinator and Mental Health Summit organizer.

For more information on either of these summits or on the Syracuse VA’s efforts to eliminate Veteran Homelessness Veterans can call the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans hotline 1-877-4AID VET (877-424-3838) for information on related services.
