Syracuse VA Medical Center Celebrates
National Volunteer Week
William Gleason Named Volunteer of the Year for 2015

The Syracuse VA Medical Center celebrated National Volunteer week with a special awards ceremony Friday, April 15th.  Each year, during National Volunteer Week, the Medical Center selects the Volunteer of the year for the past year.   The highlight of this year’s event was the presentation of the 2015 Volunteer of the year award to William Gleason.
Bill has been a volunteer since January 2005.  During that time Bill has volunteered over 10,000 hours as a DAV driver and in the office as a DAV driver recruiter.  Bill spends 8-10 hours a day, 6 days a week dedicated to the DAV Volunteer Transportation Network program.  He has been responsible for keeping the DAV driving force in tact and is totally dedicated to the Veterans he serves.
Medical Center Chief of Staff, Dr. Asif Ali, also presented plaques to five other volunteers; Robert Purser, Arthur Scofield, Francis Murray and Donald Evans, who, together, have accumulated a total of over 42,500 hours of volunteer service during the past two decades.
During 2015, some 1,558 volunteers at the Medical Center contributed 116,754 hours of service to Veterans and their families.
