Syracuse VA Medical Center Staff Receive Four Chaplains Memorial Foundation Award - Ten staff members of the Syracuse VA Medical Center were awarded the Legion of Honor by the Four Chaplain Memorial Foundation at a ceremony held in the Medical Center All Faiths Chapel, Friday May 12th. The Syracuse VA staff members were awarded for their work in Veteran suicide prevention. (05/15/2017)

2017 Nurses Week theme is “Nursing: the Balance of Mind, Body, and Spirit” - The Department of Veterans Affairs, the nation’s largest single employer of nurses, joined the American Nurses Association in honoring America’s nurses dedicated to saving lives and maintaining the health of millions of individuals, including our nation’s heroes, during National Nurses Week, May 8-12. Syracuse VA Medical Center Director to Retire - The Syracuse VA said today that Medical Center Director James Cody has announced he will retire April 21st capping a Federal Government career of over 40 years…more than 38 with the VA. He is the longest serving director of the Syracuse VA having assumed the position in January 2000. A search is underway for a successor. (03/14/2017)

Syracuse VA Medical Center Visual Impairment Services Team (VIST) Helps Veterans See the Future - When 46 year old Marine Veteran Ronald Baron was making his living as a truck driver he sometimes made deliveries to a non-descript building on Kent Street in Utica, NY. “I often wondered what went on there and what the company did,” said Ron. Turns out, he would eventually learn a lot more about the special purpose of that location and the great work that goes on at the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CAVBI). Ron no longer drives for a living…or for that matter, at all. (10/11/2016)

VA Awards Local Grants to Prevent and End Homelessness Among Veteran Families - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) today awarded approximately $300 million more in grants under the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program to help thousands of very low-income Veteran families around the nation who are permanently housed or transitioning to permanent housing. Syracuse VA Approves New Provider For Massena Community Based Outpatient Clinic - Officials at the Syracuse VA Medical Center announced today that they have approved the transfer of the operation of the Massena Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), located at 6100 St. Lawrence Centre, from OnSite Occupational Health & Safety, Inc. of Princeton, IN. to Sterling Medical Associates of Cincinnati, Ohio, pursuant to a transaction between organizations. Veteran Mental Health and Homeless Summits - The Syracuse VA Medical Center will be hosting two mental health summits from 9 AM to 4 PM on Thursday, August 4. The purpose of the Summits is to enhance the mental health and well-being of Veterans and their family members through increased collaboration between the VA and Cayuga County. Veteran Marks His 100th Year With a Visit to Syracuse VA Medical Center - Warren Wilcox was born on April 15, 1915 and he’s seen and done a lot in his 100 years. He has worked in a Feed Mill/Post Office, yes…it was both a Feed Mill and a Post Office, worked cutting wood and spent most of his life on the farm. But, it was his service to our country in 1942, in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, that made him forever part of the family here at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. (05/20/2015)

Syracuse VA Selects New Contractor for Watertown Community Based Outpatient Clinic - Officials at the Syracuse VA Medical Center announced today that Sterling Medical Associates of Cincinnati, Ohio has been selected to take over the operation of the Watertown Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). Sterling was selected to take over operations at the conclusion of the normal Department of Veteran Affairs federal solicitation and award selection process. (12/22/2014)
