Syracuse VA Medical Center

VA recommends HIV testing for all patients, even those who do not believe they are at high risk for HIV. Testing can provide an earlier diagnosis for infected persons. Early diagnosis can provide for a longer, healthier life now that successful treatments have turned HIV into a condition that can be managed. A positive HIV test no longer means a patient will die from AIDS. It means certain steps are necessary to stay healthy.

Syracuse VA Medical Center can provide medications, treatments and support to help manage HIV and live a full life. We help people living with HIV to:

  • Understand the diagnosis
  • Find support
  • Work with a doctor
  • Monitor health
  • Be aware of possible complications
  • Protect others
  • Know when to consider treatment
  • Move forward with a healthy life

The most important steps are to get tested and to follow the recommendations of a medical professional. More information is available at
